Issue Position: Restoring Integrity to Beacon Hill

Issue Position

Date: Oct. 8, 2012

The Massachusetts House of Representatives has been plagued with corruption. The past three Speakers of the House have been convicted of felonies and forced to resign in disgrace. Now the members of the legislature are facing possible indictments over the probation department scandal. Marty Lamb strongly believes that it is time to restore integrity. Marty will fight for the following reforms:

* Require all bills, including the budget, to be in print for 24 hours before voting on them.
* Allow legislators to file amendments during the debate process.
* Marty believes that it is important the Speaker's powers be reined in by allowing more debate and giving legislators a longer period to study bills such as the budget.
* End the legislature's exemption from the open records law.
* Require that campaign finance records disclose every donation.
* Improve the public records law by requiring all information be posted online and reduce the fees officials charge for copies of public records.
